The Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Higher Education Studies qualification is designed to ensure that each learner is equipped with knowledge of study skills, mathematics, computing, society and culture, business and accounting, providing the knowledge and skills to adapt rapidly to change and progress with their learning, it represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to GCE AS/A Levels.

This qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). It can be completed within 9-12 months, option of fast track available for 6 months completion.
Level 3 Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies provides learners the opportunity for academic progressions to a wide range of undergraduate programmes including Level 4 diplomas.

The Level 3 Diploma for Higher Education Studies consists of 6 mandatory units for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 600 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Course structure

Below is a list of Mandatory Units: 120 credits that make up the qualification.
  • Academic English and Study Skills (20 credits ).
  • Foundation Mathematics (20 credits ).
  • Foundation Computing (20 credits ).
  • Society and Culture (20 credits ).
  • Introduction to Business (20 credits).
  • Foundation Accounting and Economics (20 credits).
  • Entry requirement:

    • Learner must be aged 16 or over to be on the course.
    • Learner must have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and
    assessment criteria.
    • English requirements: If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country they must provide evidence of English language competency.

    Method of Assessment:
    This qualification is internally assessed and quality assured by Centre staff then externally quality assured. This is a knowledge and competence-based qualification.
    Knowledge evidence includes but not limited to written work completed then submitted online via the e-portfolio system, assignment tasks and where possible reports from work placement while considering GDPR as required as part of assessment.
    Direct observation of competence inline to unit standard and learner’s Organisation policy and procedure has to be followed.
    To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, you must provide evidence to demonstrate that you have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that you have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by your allocated Assessor.

    Hybrid teaching and learning takes place which include face to face where possible and virtual online classroom session.
    Research and support materials available to learner.

    Online e-learning platform is used to support learner while on the programme.
