This qualification is an RQF Level 5 Undergraduate degree that equip learners with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills required for a career or further study in the health and social care sector at a managerial level. The programme enables learners to demonstrate their skills by producing evidence from their work or training activities.

This qualification is a combination of both theoretical and practical knowledge within the health and social care profession developing the skills in the areas of equality, diversity, professional development, patient assessment, resource management, communication and health and safety.

The Level 5 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care Management (RQF) gives learners the opportunity to progress in specific subject occupational areas. Learners will also develop an enhanced knowledge and skills in the areas of effective partnership working, managing the care of vulnerable individuals, team management, professional supervision practices and how to complete a research project.

Successful completion of this qualification will equip learners with industry-specific and practical skills, enabling them to successfully apply their knowledge in the workplace, enhance their career prospects and allow progression to further study.

This Level 5 Extended Diploma qualification is equivalent to the first and second years of a university degree. Learners will study level 4 and 5 units, worth 120 credits per academic year with a total credit value of 240 RQF credits which can be completed within 12 to 18 calendar months.

Learners will study level 4 and 5 units, worth 120 credits per academic year with a total credit value of 240 credits (equivalent to the first 2 years of an honours degree). The Level 4 units lay the foundations of learning by providing an introduction to contemporary Health and Social Care topics while the Level 5 units allow learners to specialise and progress into specific occupational areas.


This qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) 
Learner may be eligible to gain direct entry into Year 3 of a three year UK Bachelor’s degree programme upon completing this qualification.

  • Assessment Processes in Health and Social Care Settings (20 credits).
  • Resource Management in Health and Social Care (20 credits ).
  • Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care (20 credits ).
  • Managing the Safeguarding and Protection of Vulnerable Individuals (20 credits ).
  • Health Education and Promoting Well-being (20 credits ).
  • Team Management in Health and Social Care (20 credits ).
  • Professional Supervision Practice in Health and Social Care (20 credits ).
  • Research Methods in Health and Social Care (20 credits ).
  • Entry requirement:

    • Relevant Level 3 and or Level 4 Diploma qualification or equivalent qualification
    • GCE Advanced level in 2 subjects or equivalent qualification
    • Mature learners (over 21) with relevant management experience.

    Method of Assessment:
    This qualification is internally assessed and quality assured by Centre staff then externally quality assured. This is a knowledge and competence-based qualification.
    Knowledge evidence includes but not limited to written work completed then submitted online via the e-portfolio system, assignment tasks and where possible reports from work placement while considering GDPR as required as part of assessment.
    Direct observation of competence inline to unit standard and learner’s Organisation policy and procedure where there is COVID restriction in place has to be followed.
    To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, you must provide evidence to demonstrate that you have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that you have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by your allocated Assessor.

    Career Progression:

    • Area Manager
    • Upon completing this qualification Learners are able to progress into management positions if not already in position.
    • Progression to Level 6 Diploma in Health and Social Care Management (RQF).
    • Learners are also eligible to gain direct entry into Year 3 of a three year UK Bachelor’s degree programme.
