This qualification aims to build the knowledge and understanding of Learners on how to prevent and control infection. This qualification covers the principles of the causes and spread of infection, cleaning and decontamination, personal hygiene and preventative measures.

The course contents include:

Unit 1: Principles of the causes and spread of infection in healthcare settings

Learn about the chain of infection and examine how infection is caused and the ways in which it can spread.

Unit 2: Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in healthcare settings

Discover the vital importance of personal hygiene, demonstrate effective hand washing and the principles of using personal protective equipment.

Unit 3: Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in healthcare settings

This unit will provide an understanding of how important cleaning, decontamination, sterilisation and waste management is within the healthcare setting.

Unit 4: Principles of infection prevention and control in a healthcare setting

In this unit explore the purpose of infection control and look in detail at the regulations, policies, procedures, risk assessments and roles and responsibilities in relation to infection control.

This qualification is suitable for those who work with, or are intending to with, vulnerable Children, Young Adults and the Elderly within the health and social care or healthcare sector.

It is a qualification recognised by the Awarding Body, approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) . It can be completed in 4-6 weeks.

To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings (RQF), the Learner must gain a total credit value of 15 credits. Learners must complete all of the 4 mandatory units to achieve 15 credits.

The total Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is 111 hours. The Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this qualification is 150 hours

    •There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
    • Learner must be aged 16 or above to undertake this qualification.

    •This qualification is suitable for those who work within the health and social care sectors.

    Method of Assessment:
    This qualification is internally assessed and quality assured by Centre staff then externally quality assured. This is a knowledge base qualification.

    Knowledge evidence includes but not limited to written work completed then submitted online via the e-portfolio system, assignment tasks and where possible reports from work can also be provided while considering GDPR as part of assessment.

    To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, you must provide evidence to demonstrate that you have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that you have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by your allocated Assessor.
