The aim of this qualification is to give learners knowledge and understanding of the key principles of dignity, duty of care and safeguarding as applied to adult health and social care. The objectives of this qualification are to prepare learners for further training and to support a role in the workplace where the individual may work or interact with vulnerable adults.


This qualification is suitable for those who work with, or are intending to with, vulnerable adults in the health and social care sector.

This qualification is recognised by Awarding Body, it is also approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) .

Learners must achieve a total of 16 credits from the four mandatory units to achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Dignity and Safeguarding in Adult Health and Social Care (RQF).
The total Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is 145 hours. The Total
Qualification Time (TQT) for the qualification is 160 hours. It can be completed in 8-12 weeks.

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
• Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care.
• Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care.
• Gain employment into working in Adult Care.

Course structure

Below is a list of Units that make up the qualification:
  • Understand safeguarding in adult health and social care.
  • Principles of dignity in adult health and social care practice.
  • Understand duty of care in adult health and social care.
  • Understand dilemmas and public concerns in adult health and social care.
  • Entry requirement:

    • Learner must be aged 16 or over to be on the course.
    • Learner must have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and
    assessment criteria.


    Method of Assessment:
    This qualification is internally assessed and quality assured by Centre staff then externally quality assured. This is a knowledge "ONLY" based qualification.
    Knowledge evidence includes but not limited to written work completed then submitted online via the e-portfolio system.

    To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, you must provide evidence to demonstrate that you have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that you have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by your allocated Assessor.

    Hybrid teaching and learning takes place which include face to face where possible and virtual online classroom session.
    Research and support materials available to learner.

    Online e-learning platform is used to support learner while on the programme.
