This qualification aims to enable learners to understand different types of diabetes, how type 2 diabetes can be prevented, the diagnosis of diabetes, and initial, ongoing care and treatment of diabetes.

The objectives of this qualification are to give learners working, or intending to work in the health and social care sector an understanding of diabetes that will support them in the workplace or enable learners to progress to other qualifications within the health and social care sector.

The course contents include:

Unit 1: Understand diabetes

Explore the varying functions of glucose and insulin in the blood, the different forms and causes of diabetes, as well as the risk factors associated with each type.

Unit 2: Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes

Examine the prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes, paying attention to how the condition can be delayed, or even prevented, through healthy lifestyle changes.

Unit 3: Understand the initial care of diabetes

Investigate how Diabetes can be managed and monitored. As well as considering the mental and physical impact that diabetes diagnosis can have on an individual.

Unit 4: Understand the treatment and management of diabetes

Develop an understanding of the ongoing care and treatment recommended to control blood glucose levels and identify how best to prevent and detect complications in people with diabetes.

This qualification is suitable for those who work with, or are intending to with, vulnerable Children, Young Adults and the Elderly within the health and social care or healthcare sector.

It is a qualification recognised by the Awarding Body, approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) .

Learners must achieve a total of 16 credits from the four mandatory units to achieve the RQF Level 2 Certificate in Understanding the Care and Management of Diabetes.
The total Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification is 105 hours. The Total
Qualification Time (TQT) for the qualification is 160 hours. It can be completed in 8-12 weeks.

  • Entry requirement
    :

    •There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
    • Learner must be aged 16 or above to undertake this qualification.

    •This qualification is suitable for those who work within the health and social care sectors.

    Method of Assessment:
    This qualification is internally assessed and quality assured by Centre staff then externally quality assured. This is a knowledge base qualification.

    Knowledge evidence includes but not limited to written work completed then submitted online via the e-portfolio system, assignment tasks and where possible reports from work can also be provided while considering GDPR as part of assessment.

    To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, you must provide evidence to demonstrate that you have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that you have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by your allocated Assessor.
